Happy Midsummer from Cultural Care Au Pair!

Hi all, soon it is Midsummer which makes it a perfect occasion for me share how I celebrated Midsummer in the US!
We had our celebrations in Boston one month after the original date for Midsummer (the date is not that important). We bought heaps of flowers to make flower wreaths for our hair and to decorate the Midsummer poles. Yes, we had many poles. We were competing which team could make the best Midsummer pole. We also went BIG shopping at IKEA to get all kinds of traditional Midsummer food, everything form knäckebröd/näkkileipä and kaviar to sill/silli and lax/lohi. We danced around the pole, sang traditional songs and had a wonderful time together! Please note if you are celebrating Midsummer in a neighborhood where you have other houses around it is a good idea to “warn” the neighbors about the upcoming celebration. For an American it looks pretty weird to see lots of people in the yard singing and jumping like frogs around a big cross with flowers in their hair.
Have a wonderful midsummer weekend everyone! Do not forget to share how you are celebrating!

 Warm wishes from Stockholm,
Emma
